Catechism Classes

Since the establishment of the Dubai Malankara Syrian Catholic Community, efforts have been made to bring our children together and raise them within our distinctive Malankara tradition. Active participation of children is being ensured in Catechism classes. During these years they have been involved in various activities of the community.

Our Catechism Classes & Activities

Timings

Every week we were able to conduct the Catechism classes at the St: Mary’s School classrooms. Classes were arranged on the first 3 Thursdays of the month from 8 pm to 9:30 pm in Room no 1 above Mini hall.With the significant increase in the number of children, additional batches were also introduced on first 3 Fridays of the month also. As per the requirement of St. Mary’s church and change in the timing of the Holy Mass, from September 2023 onwards, our classes were reorganized at 7:00pm-8:30pm on every Saturdays of the week.

Academic Curriculum

In the present Catechism academic year 2025, 217 children have registered in Catechism classes(from KG to grade 12) and 22 Catechists are involved in teaching with dedication and commitment. The admission to Catechism classes is given to children from the age of four. The text books prepared by Malankara Church's Faith Formation Commission is used from KG to grade 12. Catechism written examinations are held twice a year in 2 terms, from Grade 1 to 12.

Church Activities

Over the years, the active participation of children in various activities of the church community are being ensured. Giving handmade greeting cards on various occasions like Mother's Day, Father's Day, participating in numerous events, attending the Annual Day program, ‘Bethlehem’-Carol Singing competitions, charitable activities etc.

Vacation Bible class

Vacation Bible Class titled ‘Eckara’ organized under the leadership of catechism teachers is being conducted annually. This was initiated in the year 2015. Efforts are made every year to update and improve the program. Giving handmade greeting cards on various occasions like Mother's Day, Father's Day, participating in numerous events, attending the Annual Day program, ‘Bethlehem’-Carol Singing competitions, charitable activities etc.

First Holy Confession and the Sacrament of Holy Communion reception

Children aged 10 and above are given special training for the solemn reception of First Holy Confession and the Sacrament of Holy Communion. Giving handmade greeting cards on various occasions like Mother's Day, Father's Day, participating in numerous events, attending the Annual Day program, ‘Bethlehem’-Carol Singing competitions, charitable activities etc.

Altar Server Training

Children who are interested in the Altar Service are trained and included in the Altar Servers ministry.Altar training is an essential part of preparing individuals to serve in the sacred space of worship. Whether you're serving as an altar server, part of the prayer team, or assisting in communion, this training ensures that everyone approaches the altar with reverence, understanding, and purpose.

Junior Choir

Junior MCCL choir was formed with the aim of teaching children in liturgical services of the Community, as part of the spiritual formation of children. It offers children a fun and meaningful way to serve in church while developing musical skills and growing in their faith.

Weekly Gospel Reflections

In order to encourage Bible Reading, Weekly Gospel Reflections given by the MCCL students after the Holy Mass. This was initiated in the year 2015. Efforts are made every year to update and improve the program.Giving handmade greeting cards on various occasions like Mother's Day, Father's Day, participating in numerous events, attending the Annual Day program, ‘Bethlehem’-Carol Singing competitions, charitable activities etc.

Sargotsavam

Since the inception of the ‘Sargotsavam’, a talent fest for Malankara children in UAE under the leadership of Central Malankara Council since 2015, children from Dubai have been actively participating in various competitions like cultural and written competitions. Dubai unit has bagged one of first 3 positions during these years (2015,2016,2017,2018,2019,2023)

Picnic

A picnic is organized every year for bringing the children together, to build memories, enjoy the presence of others, to speak out their minds and unwind and relax. Various programs are being planned and coordinated by the teachers and the committee. The text books prepared by Malankara Church's Faith Formation Commission is used from KG to grade 12. Parish Events, St. Mary’s Church Dubai

Our children participate every year in the ‘Family Fest’ event organized by St. Mary’s Church, as well as various programs organized by the Malayalam community. Giving handmade greeting cards on various occasions like Mother's Day, Father's Day, participating in numerous events, attending the Annual Day program, ‘Bethlehem’-Carol Singing competitions, charitable activities etc.
